From 26-28 June, the University of Bergen (UiB) is hosting the plenary meeting of the ERC Scientific Council. This is the second time the ERC’s governing body convenes in Norway since the EU established the ERC in 2007.

The visit is an opportunity for the ERC President Maria Leptin and the Scientific Council to meet policy-makers, ERC grantees and the local research community. In conjunction with the plenary, an event dedicated to outstanding research will be held on 26 June at 9.45 to 13.45 in the UiB University Aula, Bergen. Amongst the speakers are the Minister of Research and Higher Education in Norway, Oddmund Hoel, as well as ERC President Maria Leptin and the ERC Vice Presidents including Norwegian Eystein Jansen, as well as several ERC grantees.

The event, called Frontier research in Norway, is open to the research community and will explore the significant role of excellent research in Norway and Europe through a panel dialogue with the Minister of Research and Higher Education, the ERC President, the Chief Executive of the Research Council of Norway and the UiB Rector. The ERC’s perspectives, including trends, future developments, and principles guiding the work of the ERC Vice Presidents across different research domains will also be highlighted, as well as the ERC’s substantial funding opportunities for different career stages. The event will furthermore feature ERC grantees who will share valuable insights into their journeys and accomplishments. One of the researchers is the ERC’s 10 000th grantee, Inga Berre.

There will also be a possibility to engage with ERC representatives and speakers in plenary sessions and in the networking breaks. The University of Bergen is organising this event in collaboration with the Research Council of Norway.
