Nicole Heine is project adviser at the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA), where she is responsible for ethics evaluations and monitoring of projects across scientific disciplines.

She has an interdisciplinary background (philosophy & medicine) and early in her career focussed on bioethics (Institute for Science and Ethics, German Reference Centre for Ethics in the Life Sciences, German Ethics Council). She held positions in EU health advocacy and science communication (HIV, TB, Malaria, cancer). Prior to joining ERCEA, she worked as policy officer at the European Commission where she was responsible for antimicrobial resistance, and coordinated European Antibiotic Awareness Day.
