Dr Böke has been funded by the ERC since 2018. She won an ERC Starting Grant in 2017 and an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2023. Her research centres on female germ cells, oocytes, that have the remarkable ability to survive for long periods of time - up to 50 years in humans - while retaining the ability to give rise to new organisms. They are key to understanding female fertility and ageing.
The EMBO Gold Medal rewards researchers under the age of 40 for outstanding contributions to the life sciences in Europe. The awardee receives a gold medal and a bursary of €10,000.
